CORDOVA POUNDERS
WRESTLING CLUB
The Cordova Pounders Wrestling Club was founded by the late John Gregory in 1989 to teach Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Coach Ron Horton became John's assistant coach in 1990 and in 1991 took over the program full-time while Gregory transitioned to lead Cordova's Judo program. Horton led the Cordova Pounders wrestling club for over 20 years teaching hundreds of Cordovans. We continue John and Ron's vision of introducing and teaching wrestling to Cordova's youth.
OUR MISSION
To use the sport of wrestling to provide opportunities for physical, mental, emotional, and social development while increasing athletic knowledge and enhancing competitive spirit to assist in preparing youth for life's challenges.
OUR COACHING PHILOSOPHY
We believe in building wrestlers with strong character on and off the mat. We believe in helping the athlete progress as a wrestler and as a person. We believe that wrestling is a team sport where individuals learn how to push each other to reach higher levels together. We believe in prioritizing the wrestling process rather than focusing on fleeting successes. We believe in promoting a champion mindset in the way our athletes prepare and compete. We believe that providing a safe environment where athletes can build long lasting relationships while growing as people and wrestlers is key to retaining athletes in the sport.
